Why Do You Fish?

Here at Backwoods Angler TV  we fish many of the NE US's finest rivers, streams, lakes and ponds.  Some are out in the "Boonys". (Do you folks have to be from PA to know what the boonys are?)  Some are in the most metropolitan areas in the country.  Some are in the mountains and some in valleys.  We target bass most often, but walleye, trout, and stripers are also on our list.  This is where we fish.

Whey do we fish?  A more thought provoking question and one that will have abundant answers that will typically be different for almost all of you.  Here is my answer..........

I'm at peace with myself most when I'm helping others and when I'm on the water.  So I had to center my life around doing either one or the other as often as possible!  The pursuit of bronze, or greenies, or brown trout, or gators.......it really gets me to focus.  It captures conversation when I'm off the water. And the scenery......mountains, streams, wildlife, misty mornings, clouds, rainbows, it all looks more stunningly beautiful on the water!  The relationships I've been blessed with because I fish for a living.......Can't say enough about this!

Then there's the hookset!  The upsweep of the rod when a four-pound bronzback ticks the jig off a boulder, then the abrupt smack!  The headshake, the "bulldog" (When she says, "nope, I';ll stay right here at the base of this boulder for a minute!") and then the leap and tailwalk!  Man!  Man!  That is what it's about, isn't it?

In my walk through life, it has been my experience that the 2 things most folks really seek, regardless of how we all go about doing it, is love and peace.  I'm at peace when I am fishing.  I'm in love when I'm helping others.  Why do you fish?  It's Ok to get a little personal here!  I won't tell!  Think about it and please comment!  Here is a short clip about why we fish.  Enjoy it, and next time you're out there, Take it all in.  Let the "stuff" that causes stress back at the dock   Tap into the true peace that fishing brings.  It's different each time!

Good fishin!
