I hear you on the complaining part but things were different and I approach my minset differntly as well. Being diagnosed with cancer sure makes you want to complain and I did, but only for a while, after all, God must have had a plan and going through chemo I'd sit and watch all the suffering around me and then I began telling jokes and all around me was laughter, for a short time the suffering was gone, this is why I was there. Now my life motto is, "Every day is a good day, just some are better", try it, it works.

The importance of mentorship can't be emphasized enough. In our rugged-individualistic society, we need mentors more than ever--for ourselves, and for our children especially. Your post brings this issue into the light. Thank you.

The word mentor comes from the Greek, meaning "wise adviser," and is also related to the Greek word, "mentos" meaning "intent, passion, spirit, purpose." My mentor shares all of these with me and inspires me to live a life with these qualities as a base. And in my case, I had to get to hopeless, in terms of how my life wasn't working, before I allowed myself to take directions from anyone else. Now, I have many mentors--you, Lefty, and, if I am open, everything and everyone becomes a guide and teacher.

What an inspiring story. I see a book on Life Lessons Learned While Fishing. Persistence and learning to focus on the positive are two life lessons right there that the world needs to hear. And it's great how you've combined them. Learning to throw back the negative and reel in the positive takes tremendous persistence--ahh, but the brutes we can catch--our dreams, helping others, BEING ALIVE while we're alive. Thx Al. How many times did doubt creep in and try to steal it? How many times did circumstances, or people, or emotions get in the way of my focusing on what needed to happen. One thing is that if I didn't have a mentor to walk me thru this stuff, I would not have come very far at all. My mentor helped me build a relationship with God, put positive thoughts in my head, and better yet, get rid of the negative ones! And he taught me the ins and outs of building a business. believe me, there's nothing conventional about it either!
